"Time flies," I used this phrase innumerable times in my life, but most of the time, I had used it without really feeling its true
meaning. In the past, I used "time flies" just because it is a very common phrase to mean that a period of time passed quickly. But today, I use "time flies" when I really mean it because now I can see before my eyes that time can
actually fly.
A baby in the house can change so many
things. They change your lifestyle for sure, they change your spending pattern
and how you used to keep your house during those pre-baby days. But I realized
one big thing that is, a baby teaches you about time. Clocks became my best friend
after Wareesha was born. I had to check time to see if her diaper needed to be
changed, if she needed a feeding or if it was her nap time and what not.
Then time literally began to fly. The tiny
baby that we brought home from the hospital was helpless. She would be inside
her swaddling blankets nearly 24 hours a day. She needed warmth, she could not
move and she slept most of the time. But gradually, she began to do things that
she could not do in the first few weeks or months of her life. She learned to coo, sit with support, sit
without support, roll, roll over, scoot, crawl, cruise and stand without
support. When I look at her and see how she transformed in the last 11 months,
I know that time did fly. Everything happened so quickly. I have not yet forgotten the days when she used to be in my womb and cause me unbearable
discomfort at night. And here today, she is standing by my side as I type this!
A zillion developments are yet to be watched. For instance,
she cannot speak or walk without support yet. Time will continue to fly and one day, she
will start going to school, learn to read and write, make friends, and do so many more things that I cannot even imagine right now. And once
those things happen, I will probably think that time flies faster than I used to think.
Although she will not be completely independent anytime soon. But
once she becomes independent, I will probably look at her childhood photos and
videos and exclaim, “how on earth did time fly so quickly?!”
