Scent of spring: Songbirds, cherry blossoms, and warmer days

Spring, perhaps the most awaited season of the year, is about to grace this region of the world with its presence. I know spring is about to arrive in Delaware because after a series of unusually frigid mornings, which lasted from December through February, cheerful chirping of red-breasted robins, blue jays, and chickadees has now filled the morning air. In contrast to spring mornings, winter mornings are so hushed and uneventful that one may even question if birds exist in this land at all. To me, birdsongs are the harbinger of spring.  With the first sight of a bluejay perched on the backyard fence or a cardinal dancing on a leafless cherry branch, I know that my wait for spring is almost over, for I’ve learned from past experiences that an increase in bird activity signifies the approach of spring!  In this part of the world, during spring, nature comes alive with an abundance of activity. Knowledge about Earthquake Preparedness is a Necessity

I pray for the safety of my friends, family and everyone else in Bangladesh, India and Nepal. I have been feeling helpless for the past 4 days. Beside feeling sorry for the people in Nepal, I have become deeply worried about the safety of the people in my home country, Bangladesh, where an earthquake of high magnitude can leave cities and towns in shambles.

In poor and overpopulated countries, where people do not even follow building codes, natural disasters bring about unimaginable losses in terms of life and property. Lack of education and knowledge about disaster preparedness also often prevent people from saving themselves and others during catastrophic events. We panic at the feeling of tremor. Although panicking is normal human reaction to anything fearful it's also at the same time important to remember that panicking cannot not save us, but only decrease our chance of surviving during an earthquake.

If anyone from Bangladesh is reading this, I request you to stay safe. "Please stay safe, please keep strong. Please read about the survival and safety measures that you can take before, during and after an earthquake. Educate yourself and others about earthquake preparedness."

We spend so much time on social media, most of the time doing nothing productive. For a change, let's all, who are living in countries in gravest threats of earthquake, take time to read and educate ourselves and others about earthquake preparedness. Please!
