Scent of spring: Songbirds, cherry blossoms, and warmer days

Image
Spring, perhaps the most awaited season of the year, is about to grace this region of the world with its presence. I know spring is about to arrive in Delaware because after a series of unusually frigid mornings, which lasted from December through February, cheerful chirping of red-breasted robins, blue jays, and chickadees has now filled the morning air. In contrast to spring mornings, winter mornings are so hushed and uneventful that one may even question if birds exist in this land at all. To me, birdsongs are the harbinger of spring.  With the first sight of a bluejay perched on the backyard fence or a cardinal dancing on a leafless cherry branch, I know that my wait for spring is almost over, for I’ve learned from past experiences that an increase in bird activity signifies the approach of spring!  In this part of the world, during spring, nature comes alive with an abundance of activity. Everywhere I look, I witness signs of life. I witness new life in the ...

My experience with Trader Joe's

We have been buying groceries from Trader Joe's since moving to Delaware almost 2 years ago. The checkout people are really nice, and the store's decor has a regional flavor to it. It kind of gives you a feeling of being inside a farm. There is a huge painted cow above their dairy section and every time my daughter's at Trader Joe's she will point to that cow and cry excitedly, "Cow, cow!" She also loves going to Trader Joe's because they give children stickers at checkout!

And even though the store carries less variety of items than regular American grocery chains, we still enjoy doing our weekly grocery shopping at Trader Joe's because of the good quality of food items they offer. I even like their shampoo, conditioner, face wash and other non-edible items.

Anyway, so last week I bought a bag of chocolate-almond biscottis from Trader Joe's. They looked delicious, however, when I tried one of them I did not quite like the taste. There was no way I could finish a bag of those biscottis. Two days later I went back to Trader Joe's to return the packet, they did not ask me a single question. I tried to hand the casher the receipt but he wouldn't even look at it. A manager came and processed the return on the computer and asked the cashier to give me cash (even though we paid for it with a credit card). It was the first surprise because almost all shops only give your refunds back to your credit card to avoid fraud.

The second surprise? Even though that packet of biscottis cost me $3.99, they gave me four crisp $1 bills during the return. Now, how many companies would do that? Most companies count every penny when it comes to making a refund or exchange!

Thank you for your great customer service, Trader Joe's!
